Omidyar Network’s US education team is focused on improving a critical aspect of individual, family and community empowerment – early childhood education, with a two-generation lens. Our goal is to increase kindergarten readiness for all children to 80% across all socioeconomic groups. Currently over half of low-income children and 1/4 of high-income children don’t show up to kindergarten ready to learn. We invest in early-stage entrepreneurs building for-profit and non-profit companies and organizations that seek to improve life outcomes for children birth to five and / or that seek to improve postsecondary completion for parents of young children connected to employment, thereby increasing educational and economic attainment for the entire family unit.

POSITION SUMMARY:  Omidyar Network is seeking a summer associate to support our efforts in building out investments to increase kindergarten readiness and postsecondary completion for parents, and to support our existing portfolio.

The summer associate will support the US Education team, currently staffed with one investment partner, one principal, and one analyst in:

  • Researching and identifying key market trends
  • Sourcing and conducting due diligence on potential investments
  • Supporting projects related to ongoing portfolio management
  • Completing projects related to the broader ecosystem and influence strategies 

Other:

  • Participation in related firm activities to increase understanding of impact investing, ON portfolio activities and other education related opportunities

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: 

  • Familiarity with education sector; direct experience working in the education sector a plus
  • Strong analytical skills, including advanced aptitude with Microsoft Excel; investment banking, venture capital, impact investing and/or private equity experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, resourcefulness, sound judgment, and ability to work in a fast-paced, challenging environment with employees around the globe across all departments
  • High degree of flexibility and adaptability
  • Passion for social impact and diversity, equity and inclusion, as well as strong interest in entrepreneurship
  • Creative and independent self-starter, entrepreneurial spirit, and strong team player
  • Currently pursuing MBA / equivalent experience
